Two young Japanese were charged at the Police Court with deserting the British ship Habart. They submitted a written statement, which has-been translated into English, setting out that they were Japanese students who had been sent out from Japan to make themselves acquainted with, that grand; arid' honorable English nation, the rulers of the world. They asked that they should not be compelled to return to their skip' 'with 1 an "unhonorable face," for they 'Would have m> other method than death as. Japanese.
