It is the Governor's rule not to give his patronage to societies which are newly formed or which have not been established for at least a year or two, and His Excellency is afraid that he does not see his way to make' an exception in this particular case. There would be no objection, if they wished to do so, renewing their application say in { a year or two's time, when they had been firmly established. I am to add that His Excellency has much sympathy! with such societies, being conscious of .the, amount of good work they are doing in the " colony, and he wishes the East Coast Society for the. Prevention' of Cruelty to Animals every success.— Yours faithfully, H. C. . Waterfield, Private Secretary.'* ' • ' The English society is actively patronise^ _by their Majesties and the 'Royal. Fiumily, and 1 have active branches throughout the whole of the United Kjingdom, numbering many thousands. This concluded the business, and the meeting adjourned till 4th December.
