The weather was overcast at many recording stations this morning. Rain was reported at Farewell Spit, and passing showers nt New Plymouth, Westport, Greymouth. Hokitika, Bealy, and Nuggets; a drizzle at Timaru. * STATE OF THE SEA. Smooth seas prevailed north of Castlepoint, whence a moderate sea was reported, as also at Cape Campbell and Bluff. On the West Coast tliere was a moderate sea at Kaipara; smooth thence south to Cape Foulwind. | WEATHER FORECAST. ! Captain Edwin telegraphed this morning — Westerly moderate to strong winds, tides good, sea moderate, glass fall slowly, but strong winds to gale, tides moderate, sea moderate, rain probable after twenty-four hours.
