SLAUGHTERMEN'S DISPUTE.

AUCKLAND, this day. The Arbitration Court's award m the Gisborne slaughtermen's dispute provides for an increase m the wages of slaughtermen to £1 3s per hundred for freezing sheep and lambs, £1 for leg' of mutton sheep, 18s for potters, 4d each for rams, 2s for bullocks, ls for pigs, and the present rates for calves. An eight-hour day is provided, Hut employers have tlie right to call upon, the men^to start at an earlier hour than 6 o'clock, m whicli case 6d shall be^paid for each lialf-hour worked before 6 a.m., m addition to the piecework rate. Overtime is t» be paid for at the rate of time and a quarter. Cooling floor and gut-house hands and fat-house hands are awarded 7s 6d per i}ay.' Men working at manure and blood crushing Bs, fellmongery hands Bs, floor hands 7s 6d, general laborers outside 7s, preserving works hands, tinsmiths Bs, and others 7s 6d, freezing chamber hands Is .3d per hour ; coopering department, coopers Bs, assistants 7s ; carpentering according to the carpenters' award ; engine-room, firemen £2 16s for a week 'of 7 days; night watchmen £. per week of 7 nights of 12 hours; general laborers 7s. boys and youths between 14 and 15 12s, between 15 and 16 15s, "between 16 and 17 18s. -between 17 and 18 £1 ls, between 18 ana 19 £1 ss, 19 and 20. £1 10s„20 ond 21 £1 15s. Double time h to be paid oft Sundays, Christmas" Day, Good Friday, timet and a half on six other days during the year. Among the general clauses is one that waiting time and dqjays m setting men to work shall be avoided as far as possible, ' and employers^shall, as soon as reasonably practicable, carry out their undertaking to improve the present accommodation for thte use of worken?. Tlie usual underrate, preference, and employment book clauses are included m the award, which comes into operation on" June Ist, continuing fortwo years^_^ V
