Tlie new yacht for the King, which Sir Philip Watts has designed, will be a comparatively small vessel in comparison with the Victoria and Albert, which displaces 4700 tons of water. This ship is essentially a vessel of State, while the new ono will take the place of the Osborne, the old paddle wheel yacht which was built as long ago as 1870, and is now regarded as past sea service. The new vacht is being built on the Clydo by "Messrs A. and J. Inglis, and will be ready for use in the course of 1907. This ship will displace only 2050 tons, will be 275 feet long, with a beam of 40 feet, and will have a mean load draught of 12£ feet. Small as she is and great as are the demands for cabin accommodation in a small vessel of this character, it is nevertheless intended to fit her with machinery calculated to give a speed of 18A knots an hour. This is a rate consicferably lower than that of tho Victoria and Albert, which attained upwards of 20 knots on her trials. Whereas, however, the latter vessel has reciprocating engines, the new one, like all the men-of-war being built, will be fitted with turbines of the Parson's type, and the absence of vibration will add greatly to the comfort on board,
