There was almost a full attendance of delegates, those present being Messrs Hawkins (m the chair), Caesar, Gumming, Barlow, Macdonald, Hill, and Gibson (secretary): As no meeting had been called since December 6th, and Lord Hawke had visited Napier m the interim, the secretary had accumulated some interesting business, which provided food for lengthy discussion. The members of the Association showed an earnest desire to bring about a, speedy resumption of the Thursday and Saturday competitions. The secretary explained that he had arranged fixtures himself m the absence of a meeting of the Association. These were dealt with,, and alter alterations the following series of games were decided on : — . Thursday competition : January 22nd, Kaiti-City v. Whataupoko ; January' 29, Wluitaupoko v. The action of the. secretary m commit- , ting the Association to affiliation with Hawke's Bay, selecting a Hist of certain players to represent Gisborne m the Hawke's Bay team to play Lord Hawke's combination, and otherwise assuming the functions of the Association, was then brought up. A long discussion, chiefly of the nature of a catechism of the secre- ; tary m relation to his correspondence with the Hawke's Baj' Association, then ensued. Mr Gibson admitted having acted without, the authority of the. Association, and stated that his idea, had been to ensure, those players -who wanted a game a chance of inclusion m the team to play the Englishmen. He stated that as far I os he could see lie had not committed the i Association to affiliation with Hawke's i Bay> as he was acting privately for play- '■ ers who were willing to pay the fees if I the Association did not.. It was. pointed '• out, however* that a telegram sent by him i to Hawke's Bay clearly gave the impress- < sion that Poverty Bay had definitely de- < cided on affiliation. The secretary" then ] tendered liis resignation, which was not i accepted. It was finally decided that the ■ best course to pursue was to agree to the ' affiliation with Hawke's Bay, to which. I the Association had been committed.
