A Hnwke's Bay settler on a visit to Napier, wishing to buy a certain mare from a friend on the West Coast, wrote the following telegram : — "lf Dolly for sale, what price?" Thinking to improve the wording, he wrote another telegram and left the original message on the table of the writing-room of tihe hotel. After a short time one of the English cricketers went into the room, and picked up the discarded telegram, which ho read with much interest, and showed it round to his friend as a great curiosity, .saying, as it liappened m front of the sender, ''You know m some countries that sort of thing is not uncommon."
