A SHIPPING STRIKE.

On the arrival of the. Howaxd-Smith steamer Leura, the waterside workers declined to work, on the ground that tliie company employer a nton-unionist lumper. A conference of local steamship managers was held, arid it was decided to resist the unionist demands. They ordered all unionists discharging cargo to leave the vessels. The crews and extra hands were put on, and continued the discharging. The Waterside Union replied by calling out all unionists. (Received June 23, 9.35 a.m.) TOWNSVILLE, June 23. The strike affects Howard-Smith, Burns, Philp and Co., and the, Adelaide Companies. Their steamers are being delayed, although all permanent hands and "clerks of the companies are assisting in getting them away. Both sides ap,pear firm.
