THE PATEA ELECTION.

(From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. Mr J. Heslop, one of Sir Joseph Ward's secretaries, has been appointed private secretary to Mr Mills, vice Mr Crow, promoted to Hansard staff . Owing to no polling booth being established at Wakirikiri, the Patea election may be upset. Mr Remington is also likely to have the election upset on the ground that canvassing illegally was indulged in. In connection with the Health Department, the followjng appointments >as district health officers have been made by the Government: Dr Magill, Auckland; Dr Valentine, Wellington; Dr Morice, jun., Westlamd; Dr Roberts, Nelson and Marlborough ; Dr Symes, Canterbury. The first two are permanent appointments, and the others temporary. No appointment for Otago and Southland has yet beenjnade.
