ROWING.

The concluding race of the heatß that during last week were being rowed off by the Qiaborne Rowing Club was fought out on Saturday evening by Sherriff nnd Dnggan. There was Bplendid water for the event, and good time was recorded. Sherriff got a Blight advantage at the start, - and led throughout, winning by a couple of lengths. The successful crew, comprising ' L; Sherriff (str), H. E. Dodd (3), W. * Jfiarding (2), A. Sherriff (bow), are now the '. possessors of the handsome gold medals presented to the club by Mr C. Clarke. The next races will be held about the middle of January, and members are already in training for them. On Saturday evening the final heat of the trial fours of the Poverty Bay Rowing Club was rowed off, and the result was a fitting climax to the series of races just cpholuded for Mr Clarke's handsome donation. The races have bees the means of reviving the interest in rowing circles very considerably this season. C. Taylor and J. Poole's orews were the competitors, and from a very good start Poole at once took the lead, and at liees's had a lead of aboul ■ half-a-length, but Taylor's crew were hanging on with a good steady swing, anil '_. .in spite of Poole's effort to retain the lead - the.' two crews were about level at the ._ bridge, which was again packed with cheering spectators, encouraging their own ' particular favorites. Both crews wero nil , ' out, and Taylor forged a little ahead. At ■ , Searle's corner he was still leading. Poole's V . ciw put on another ounce, and at Robin- ' son's they were again level ; but it was . their last effort, and Taylor's crew, lasting the longest, won a well-contested race by about a quarter of a length.
