[Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, This day. A young woman named Elizabeth McDonald has been committed to trial fur ill-using her little daughter, three years old. Tho evidence showed the child was cruolly beaten, and held naked under a tap iv cold weather. WOODVILLE, This day. A heavy gale did very much damage throughout the district yesterday. It culminated last night in a snow storm. The liilla around Woodville were peppered to their base with snow. INVERCARGILL, This day. During a violent gale yesterday, a gas holder at the corporation works, with a capaoity of fifty thousand cubic feet, canted badly, owing to the guide wheels breaking. The whole of the gas, thirty-eight thousand feet, escaped.
