The Duke of Devonshire, in a speech at Birmingham, said the Government were never stronger than at present. lhe country did not demand any great constitutional or social changes, but required the perfecting of the defences and strengthening the unity of the Empire. The recent demonstration of power by Great Britain, and the firm intention to maintain her rights, had resulted in closer relations with Germany, Italy, and Russia, and had even cleared the air with regard to France. _____________
