Mr Chamberlain has forwarded to the Queen the messages of condolence sent, by the Australasian Governors in connection with the death of the Duchess of Teck. The holders of Queensland beef propose to arrange a temporary poo. Messrs VVeddel and Co., Colonial Consignment Co., and Bert, Potter and Bergyl have agreed that all beef stock afloat on November Ist shall be valued by independent valuers, the prices afterwards to be fixed periodically. The proceeds are to be divided in proportion to the value pooled. Several banks which are in the habit of handling beef for their clients approve of the scheme. VIENNA, Oct. 31. The Austrian Reichstrath had a tumultuous sitting, extending over 27 hours, owing to the obstiucticm offered by the Ocrinau minority in passing a law for the extension of Ausgleich. Strangers were excluded from the Chamber during the whole of the sitting. The German members .■stonewalled the Ausgleich proposals. Herr Lecher spoke for twelve hours, the other obstructionists meanwhile banging the desks and howling insulting epithets at the Chairman in order to provide intervals of rest for the speakers. NEW YORK, Oct. 31. Henry George, son of the late Henry George, has been nominated for the mayoralty of Greater New York as a Socialist and Bryante candidate. It is probable that Judge Vanwick, the nominee for the Tammany Hall party, will be elected. Fifty thousand artisans will follow Henry George's funeral. OTTAWA, Oct. 30. The man who attempted to shoot Sir Wilfrid Laurier, the Premier, by shoocing at him with a revolver, has been declared to be insane and incarcerated in a lunatic asylum. CAIRO, Oct. 30. In the recent rcconnaisaucc at Metemnieh, on the Nile, by the British-Egyptian force fully 600 Dervish troops were killed. Oct. 31. — Kassala, which was handed over by Italy, is to be garrisoned by Egyptian troops.
