Typhoid fever is prevalent in Belfast, where 150 cases are reported.* Oct. 28.— The Duchess of Teok lived three hours after the operation. She recovered from the effects of the anoosttietic, and conversed cheerfully with her daughter and husband and son Alexander. Then her heart failed. Syncope was the cause of death. A Court circular which has been issued states that the Queen is much affected and is confident that the Duchess was universally beloved for her kindness and goodness, and will bo deeply mourned throughout the whole country. Mr Charles J. The Customs Committee has fixed the geneial duty on butter at 30 francs the double cwt, the minimum ' tariff being fixed ; ab,2o francs the double cwt. NEW YOKK, Oct. 2S. Mr Chiuincey M. Depew, President of the New York and Hudson River Railway Co., suspects that the recent fall of the Buffalo express train into the Hudson River at Corridor, when 28 lives were lost, was the result of foul play, and he has ordered an inquiry. African Political Association i strongly condemned the indenturing of Bechuana prisoners captured during the recent rising against the British. They state that many indentured natives did not share in the rebellion. Mr J. Rose Innes, Under-Seoretary for Native Affairs, replying I to a statement of the Association, states that the indenturing system has not yet received a fair trial. CONSTANTINOPLE, Oct. 28. The Sultan of Turkey is consulting with the agents of Armstrong, the noted English and lirupp, German, big gun manufacturers, with reference to the reconstruction of the Turkish navy.
