The French Government has refused to recognise the treaties entered into between the Royal Niger Company and the territorial chiefs of West Africa until their terms are formally communicated by the British Government.

French newspapers are greatly excited in their references to the claims of France and Great Britain. It is insisted by the French Colonistl party that M. Hanotaux, Foreign Minister, should uphold the right of France, especially in. respect to the kingdoms of Nikhi and Bovissa.
