LABOR TROUBLES.
THE' GREAT ENGINEERS' STRIKE. LoN'Doy, Oct. 28.
The prospects of a speedy conference between the federated employers and the engineers arc declining. Mr Barnes, secretary of the Engineers' .Society, states that if the employers insist upon the eliminating of the demand for reduced hours, the men will refuse to participate in the conference Mr John Burns says he does not regret the temporary diversion of trade caused by the strike, if it results in breaking the tyranny of capital. The federated trades have asked MiRitchie to arrange a conference with the employers, relative to tho hours of labor. Mr Ritchie replied that such a. course of action would be inopportune, and tend to complicate the situation. The federal trades concurred in this view. The engineering trouble continues to extend. Three thousand engineers have been locked out at Gainsborough, an important engineering centre in Lincolns hire.
