The Premier at Wellington.
MR SEDDON ON THE RECENT KEVJSLATIONS. Wellington, last night. The Hon. Mr Seddon addressed a crowded meeting in the Skating Rink last night. His speech was on the same lines as recent I uttrances. He regretted that he could not refer to the Colonial Bank case as he would like as the matter waa still before the Law Courts. However, he could say with regard to one phase of the case that Mr Ward was on the ocean on hia return to New Zealand when the transaction was entered into and could not possibly have had anything to do with it. He declared thufc Mr Ward's financial position never entered into the question of the bank agreement. He also stated that during the session of 1894 tho Bank of New Zealand offered to tako over Mr Ward's account and business,, but he declined thn offer. Mr Seddon said it was a most deliberate, dastardly and unmanly attempt to ruin a man, and Mr Ward really deserved their sympathy. A resolution of Lhanka and continued confidence in. Mr Seddon's administration was curried almost unanimously and the meeting broke up with cheers for Mr Seddon.
