At the Supreme Court, Thomas Johnston was convicted of forging an endorsement to a cheque for £2. His Honor remarked that prisoner had been continually in gaol since 1884, and had evidently made up his mind to live by swindling. •
Charles Robinßon was found guilty; of receiving valuables stolen from the Museum, knowing them to be stolen, and was sentenced to two years hard labor. George Sandbrook and Patrick Stanton, charged with assault and robbery at Masterton, were acquitted.
Thomas Johnstone, for false pretences, was sentenced to fifteen months.
R. Parßons and M. Knight pleaded guilty to obtaining money .by false pretences by means of the " confidence trick." They were remanded for sentence. -
