» [Pbr Press Association.] WELLINGTON. To-day. It is rumored that the Colonial Treasurer will shortly leave for England on private business. Mrs Foltham, of Kilburnie, wife of an employee on the switchback railway, awoke the other night to find a man standing beside her bedside holding in his hand a purse containing £26, which he had taken from beneath her pillow. He threatened to shoot her if she called out, and left the house with the money. Over two hundred dairy premises have now been registered under the new Dairy Industry Act. The s.s. Wakatipu, which arrived from Sydney late last night, brought 194 passengers and 164 bags of English and Australian mails. CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. Berry's butcher shop and King's toy shop and stock have been destroyed by fire. At a meeting of the officers of the Telegraph Department it was decided to support Mr R. C. Houlihan's candidature for a seat on the Appeal Board, and a strong committee was formed to further his interests. A large measure of support has been promised in the Christchurch and surrounding districts. AUCKLAND, Today. It is reported that the late Mr Dilworth, whose estate is valued at £150,000, has bequeathed a considerable portion of it for educational purposes. INVEECARGILL, To-day. A safe containing a considerable sum of money and stamps was stolen from the Mataura post office on Thursday night. There is no clue to the perpetrators.
