STABBED TO THE HEART.
Paris, June 25. While at Lyons yesterday M. Sadi Carnot, President of the French Republic, was stabbed to the heart by an assassin. He still lingers, but latest bulletins state he cannot live, and his medical attendants have given up all hope. President Carnot was stabbed last night on leaving the Palais de Commerce m Lyons. The would be assassin darted out from among a small knob of onlookers and threw himself on the President. He was promptly arrested. President Carnot was going to the theatre, where he intended to spend the evening. Later. — President Carnot is dead.
[Marie Francois Sadi Carnot.v President of the French Republic, was born at Limoges, August, 1873. He was a grandson of Carnot, " the organiser of victory " under the French Convention, and was a civil engineer by profession. In 1871 he was elected as deputy for Cote dOr, and joined the Repnblican Left. In 1886 he took office m the Brisson Cabinet as Finance Minister. On the resignation of M. Grdvy, December (1887) he was elected President of the Republic. The Czar of Russia conferred upon him the Order of St. Andrew m March, 1891.]
