A reverend gentlemen having got into difficulties with his congregation, found it necessary to hand m his resignation. On the eve of his departure he preached a farewell sermon, and sought to improve the occasion by firing a parting shot. "You ungrateful und godless people;" he began severely, " it is clear that God does not love you, as I have buried none of you since I have been here, and it is certain you do not love one another, for I have not married any of you. It is equally plain you do not love me, for you have not paid me my last quarter's salary. However, I Bhall henceforth be independent of you. I have obtained a position as chaplain of a gaol." And then he coolly gave out the text, " I go to prepare a place for you." The Tasmanian Government is doing its utmost to provide work for the unemployed on public works m all parts of the colony. M* Samuel Robson of Paeroa, had one of the fingers of his right hand blown off on Monday while handling a gun, not knowing it whs loaded.
