A Daring Burglary.
Melbourne, Jan. 29.— A burglary of a very daring character was committed early this morning at the house of Mr J. Kean, Forest Lodge, near Sydney. After drugging a large watch-dog, the burglars cut a hole through a window sash ana window blind m order to reach the bolt. They then thoroughly ransacked the house, securing a lot of jewellery, plate, and a considerable sum of money, part of which was taken from the pockets of Mr Keen's trousers m his bedroom. After securing all the portable booty they could, the thieves smashed open a cupboard door, and regaled themselves with a substantial meal, and m exchange for a pair of new boots belonging to Kean, oneof the burglars left behind a much-battered pair which he had been using. It is surmised that the robbers employed a drug to stupefy the inmates of the house, as well as the watch- dog.
