Postal Conveniences.

Sir,— ln Mr Beswick's letter of Tuesday he says (taking my suggestions as previously numbered), re : — No. I—That1 — That the private box lobby is open from 8 a.m. till 10 p.m. daily, Sundays iucluded. I think he must be wrong m this (although certainly he ought to know), as from my experience I thiuk I can safely say that on three Sundays out of four the outside door to the box lobby is not opened before spm., and last Sunday it was closed until after 5 p.m., when it was opened. fto. 2. No one is more ready than mysclt to admit the uuiform courtesy of the postal staff, but I fail to see where any complication can arise if the " Mail not sorted " placard is put up when it applies. It can be taken down as soon as the mail is sorted, whether another notice " Mail sorted " is put up or not. Try them. Mr Beswick, and you will find that you will oblige the public, who, although grateful for courteous replies, would just as soon gave themselves the trouble of asking questions where the matter can be overcome so simply. No. 3. — I for one iiid not know that all mails arriving before 10 j».m. wore sorted on arrival, but being aioa>e that the sorting of mails on Sundays was voluntary on the part of the staff and not required by the department, I made the suggestion so that m the event of the staff declining at any time to sort matter on Sundays, the public could be notified m a simple manner of the fact that they need not look for their correspondence until the following day. No. 4. — Sometimes, Mr Beswick, the coast mail can be seen on the sorting table before 8 p.m , and although not a large mail the sorting rarely commences before 8 p.m. or is finished before 9.

No. 5. — In your reply to suggestion No. 3, Mr Beswick, you state that all mails arriving m the office before 10 p.m. are sorted immediately on arrival. Why then should the regulation prevent the delivery into the boxes of delayed telegrams on the day they are received ? I think you will find that iv other towns the practice obtains. — I am, &c, TINOROTO.
