A FRAUD.
» Christchurcii, to-day. — A man who hu* been posing here during the past week a« special correspondent of the Yorkshire Post, and who represented that he had a special mission to fulfil in reporting on the resources of the colony, was arrested last night for obtaining money under false pretences. He represents that he arrived in Wellington by the Rimutaka in January, but when arrested bills were found on him dated January 16th, Occidental Hotel, Dunedin, from Johnstone, a chemist of Manse.street, Dunedin. He has victimised a number of people here, and on Wednesday gave a banquet to a number of Yorkshiremen at Arena's Cafe de Paris. He obtained a watch from a local jeweller, and showed it round as having been presented to him when he was leaving Home by the men of the Yorkshire Post. He appears to have several aliases.
