TOUCH AND GO.

This afternoon The opponents of female franchise are jubilant to-day at the prospect of defeat of the proposed reform. They claim to have the support of Messrs Hart, Holmes, Reynolds, and Stevens on Mr McLean's new clauses conferring electoral rights on women, and that Mr Taiaroa will not vote. In that case, these clauses will be adopted by a majority of three, but it is just on the cards that the House may by a majority agree to accept the Bill under altered conditions, in the hope that next session they will be able to strike out electoral rights. Government certainly could carry such a proposal and an opportunity would be afforded them of testing their sincority on the question of female sullrage.
