THE BILL THROUGH COMMITTEE.

2i HOURS WILL DECIDE FATE OF THE POLITICAL WOMAN.

Wellington, to-day. The Electoral Bill has gone right through committee in the Council unameiulecl, the supporters of female franchise voting solidly against any attempt at alterations. Theße included making the hour of closing the poll uniform at seven o'clock and striking out the clause preventing wagers on elections. Though this Bill has been safely steered through committee danger lies ahead in tho new clauses which Mr McLean intends proposing this afternoon conferring electoral rights on women. This was the rock on which the Hill was wrecked last session, and it is again in troubled waters, for Messrß Hart and Holmes will vote against the Government on this question. The next twenty-four hours will decide whether the women of the colony are to have equal political rights with men.
