Brisbane, July 16. The football match Queensland v. New Zealand was played to-day, when the visitors had all the best of the g^me, and won by 12 points to 3. McKenzie and Wynyard scored the tries for the New Zealanders, but Wilson failed to convert them Two goals were kicked from marks, one by Wilson and another by Ellison. Warbrick scored for the local men. The weather was hot. There were 7,000 people present. Today. — Cockroft played a magnificent game on Saturday, and he was well supported by Lambie and Ellison. The play of Bayly, Butland, Harper, and Jervis is deserving of espesial mention. Jervis sustained a nasty injury to his jaw. The game throughout was very fast, particularly in the second spell, and the visitors were in good condition or they could not have stood the heat. Sydnby, July 17. The New South Wales Union has now definitely arranged to play a return match with New Zealand on 20th inst. The New Zealanders will probably send fifteen to Bat hurst on the 26th to play the western district team. Wellington, to-day. Nothing further is known about the selection of additional footballers for Sydney, the secretary of the Union being absent from town. Some of the Union officials protest against the men being sent. The Poneke Football Club on Saturday defeated Petone by 14 points to 2. This makes the cup a certainty for the former Club. The proposal to send additional footballers to Sydney is not; regarded favorably here.
