The Sportsman says that Lord Sheffield is thinking of taking an eleven to Australia again, and that unless he decides to do so the Marylebone Club may be expected to send one. The Wairoa paper says :—ln view of the opening of Parliament, on June '22nd, it behoves our settlers to consider whether some effort should be made to consider practical recognition of the claims of this isolated and neglected district. No better opportunity could be selected, for if the Ministry allow this session to expire without affording help to the settlers, no Government candidate will have a chance of election if the Wairoa vote will turn the scale. The best plan would be far a representative meeting of settlers to decide what should be asked for, and delegates should be sent to Wellington to give effect to the resolution. It would be unwise to ask for too much, but what is asked for weshould insist on. Our own opinion ia that the construction of a road for travelling stock, to join the Auckland system, is the most pressing and important work. If properly represented, this work should be readily agreed to on colonial grounds, for the opening of this road would speedily break up the isolation of the Uriwera tribe, and bring their lands under settlement wherever Jie land is of a suitable character.

Mr H L. Harston, pianoforte and organ tuner, will be visiting Giaborne (and surrounding districts if sufficient inducement offer?) in a few days. Thoac who may require their instruments tuned, by leaving orders at Mr W. Parnell's will receive careful attention. Re-covering hammers and repairs of any kind a speciality. Mr Harston wishes it to be distinctly understood that he does not wish to interfere with the connection of the regular tuner who visits this district. — Advt. CARAMELS!
