[By Teleoraph.— Pkess Association.] WELLINGTON, To-day. The Railway Commissioners find that the Petone workshops will also have to work half a day short as well as the others. The Chamber of Commerce have agreed to recommend that October 28 be abserved as holiday for the Eight Hours 1 Demonstration, but suggest to the Demonstration Committee ihftt in future they should fix on the Show day. There is a general feeling amongst employers against having a special holiday, and they think the example of aome other centre should be followed, and the festival held on some recognised holiday. The Registrar of Electors has issued a thousand objections to names on the roll, and two thousand more will shortly be sent out. The Post Office has received advico from Sydney of a very heavy easterly gale during the night. The Melbourne and South Australian lines are interrupted, and the Government cannot say when communication is likely to be restored. Lieutenant Hume has formerly protested against his disqualification as an amateur for captaining a tugof-war team. The football match Wellington v. Manawatu, was won by Wellington by 13 points. WOODVILLE, To-day. The compositors on the Woodvilla Examiner struck work this morning. The c*use alleged by the men is that their wages aro now overdue, and the directors propose to publish the paper as a tri-weckly insteady of a daily.
