The Broken Hill Strike.
A DEPUTATION WAITS ON GOVERNMENT. THE PREMIER REFUSES TO RECEIVE THEM. [Per Press Association.— -Copyright.] Sydney, Sept. 20. A large procession of workmen paraded the streets to-day, and proceeded towards Parliament Buildings to present resolutions condemning the action of the Government at Broken Hill. A large force of troopers and police on foot took possession of Macquarrie-strreet and the buildings, and prevented all approach to the precincts. A deputation of sixteen was selected to interview the Premier but only three were permitted to enter) and Sir G. Dibbs then declined to receive them. The police continued to guard the approaches to Parliament Buildings during the evening. Work is proceeding quietly at Broken Hill. The Proprietary mine send the first shipment of ore to Port Pirie tomorrow. Sept. 21.— A large number of Socialists were included in last night's procession. They had a red flag flying and met at the Statue where fully 10,000 people congregated. The crowd dispersed by midnight. One man was arrested for attempting to break through the police lines. Much incendiary oratory was indulged in by the leaders.
