The Decision in Ryan's Case

•in.— l notice that Mr Finlay, of the Argyll Hotel, feels aggrieved at the decision in Ryan's case. As to this particular case I know nothing, and am therefore not in a position to judge ; but I fenl culled upon to bear testimony to facts which have come under my own personal observation and knowledge as to Mr Finlay's conduct in another case, especially as Mr Finlay, I am sure, is not aware of what I know. In the case I refer to, not only did Mr Finlay systematically refuse drink to him when the m«n whs at all the worse of drink, but in one instance I happen to have it in Mr Finlay's handwriting that he declined to supply the man with a bottle of whisky when perfectly sober, and simply because Mr Finlay knew it was not right to do so. In the face of such facts, it would ha hard to convince me that Mr Finlay is likely to misconduct his business in any way ; and I can only wish that we may have more of Mr Finliy's stamp, so long as the country continues to be cursed with the unmitigated evil of har-drtnking. I hope the day is not far distant when the public feeling will require every public house bar in the country to be closed, and only permit the supply of liquor in hotels to people as a part of regular meals. I r.m, &c, W. SjBVWJtIOHT.
