Loss of the Star of Erin.

JUDGMENT OF THE COURT. Ixvkkcaiwjill, last night. — The Court delivered judgment in the enquiry into the wreck of the barque Star of Erin to-day. They found that her loss was caused by over confidence in estimating the distance from Waipapa light, when a more strict attention to the chart course and distance made would have shown that the ship was getting into dangerous proximity to the shoal ground off Waipapa. Taking into consideration the fact that no opportunity was afforded for verifying the position of the ship by crossbearings, the misty condition of the weather, (he sudden changes of the wind, and that the master was still in hopes of getting through to the eastward, for which purpose it was necessary to stand to the starboard tack as long as possible to avoid dangers on the south side of the channel, the Court returned the certificates of the master and officers and made no order against them for CQota.
