The Taruheru Footbridge.
«. BOROUGH COUNCIL V. HARBOR BOARD. At the meeting of the Borough Council last evening u> letter was read from tho Secretary to the Harbor Board in which the writer stated that with reference to the Council's claim for a share of the cost of plans for the footbridge he had instructions to refer the Council to the Board's former letter in which they denied liability for their share of repairs to the footbridge. — The Clerk stated that the Council on the strength of the letter had issued a summons. The case was to have come on next Thursday, but in order to allow the Harbor Board to obtain outside advice the case had been adjourned till the following week. The Mayor said the matter was a serious one to the Borough. It appeared that the whole cost of the bridge would for the time being fall on them. They would probably have to bear the burden and then take such stops as thought advisable after. Both the Harbor Board and the County Council objected to the demands for their shares of the cost and had taken advice on the matter. He thought it best to bring a test action on a small amount for the cost of the plans. They had that night a request for a progress payment of £100 on the work, and it was driving the Council into a very serious position.
