INTERPROVINCIAL.

[Br Teleoraph.— Press Association^ WELLINGTON, To-pat. In reference to the trouble in the Synod last week the Archdeacon of Wellington writes to the Times stating on the authority of the Primate that no formal inhibition whatever was issued against the Rev. Howell, but that the Primate did privately require the clergy of the city churches not to ask the Rev. Howell to preach in their churches. This was done for two reasons, first, l)ecause of the personal attitude, assumed by the Rev. Howell towards the Primate as diocesan while he held the position of assistant curate in St. Paul's parish, and secondly, because his presence in that parish unfortunately proved to he a source of division. The whole of the Post and Telegraph service canvassed for the presentation, and not the slightest difficulty was experienced in raising sufficient money for the valuable present. Messrs Ballance and Buckley also added their testimony to the worth of Mr Warburton, the former defending the Government in their selection of him as Public Trustee. The Government, he said, had preferred to search the Civil Service for an officer rather than select a lawyer or a commercial man, and he believed they had got a right man in the right place. Since Mr Warburton became Public Trustee, he had completely restored the confidence of the public in the office. Government have not yet appointed any Commissioners for the Chicago Exhibition. In fact there is a hitch about the representation of the colony. Some Committees want the Government to buy their exhibits outright, which the Minister of Public Works flatly refuses to do.
