The conference between the master bootmakers and employees, which has been sitting here for tho last week, was brought to a conclusion this afternoon, a thorough settlement of all the difficulties existing in the trade in (he colony having been arrived at. Provision has been made for the setting up of a Local arid General Board of Conciliation, and among the more important general conditions adopted are : — " Should any dispute arise between employers and employees, the matter in dispute shall be dealt with by the Local Board of Conciliation, but should they not agree it shall be referred to the General Board for final decision." "The Local Board of Conciliation shall consist of seven, members, three to be selected by the employers, three by the employees, and one umpire, who shall be appointed by six members of the Board, all save the umpire to be connected with the trade." "The General Board of Conciliation shall consist of eight members, four from the employers and four from the employees, who shall meet annually in the month of December, the first; meeting to be held in Auckland." The agreement came to remains in force until January Ist, 1893. To-»AY. The case of alleged dummyism in the Northern Wairarapa district investigated recently by the Land Board, has been considered by the Cabinet, and in accordance with the decision arrived at tho Minister of Lands has directed that; a prosecution be instituted against Mr Coleman Phillips. Up to the present the property tax received for the year amounts to L 337,000. Several postal advices are yet to come, and when these and the Fire Insurance Co's tax, due on bth March, are received the Treasurer's estimate of L 355,000 will be fully realised, AUCKLAND. To-day. The Governor arrived to-day via Tauranga and Te Aroha At the former place he visited the Gate Pa and other places of interest. Mr Copeley, Commissioner of Crown Lands for South Australia, states he is much impressed with the great natural resources of the colony, and the enormous export of frozen Meat. He has seen nothing better for agricultural purposes than the land round Tiniaru and Oamaru, but thinks the North Island better adapted for stock. The bodies of John Burnside and Alfred Stevens, drowned in the Ponui boat accident, have been recovei'ed. Arrived : Manapouri from; Sydney. The Wesleyan Church have established a mission in New Guinea, and among tha first missionaries will be the Rev. B. Fellows, at present in charge of the Western District, Southland, subject to ratification by the annual meeting. Tho business of the Equitable lusurance Association has been sold to the: Union Insurance Company. CHRISTCHUROH, To-day. The grand jury threw out the bill against Daniel Flannagan as accessory after the fact in the child murder, case. True bills against the mother and daughter were returned. PALMERSTON NORTH, To-day. A young man named Withers was drowned while crossing the Pohangina river yesterday.
