The Wellington Child Murder

Wellington, to-day. Dean, who yesterday morning killed his little girl, has been out of work for some time owing to the strike, and his wife states thafc latterly he has been talking wildly and acting in a very peculiar manner.

Dr Rawson had been called in to see him. He considers Dean is without doubt h lunatic, and is not responsible for his actions.

The child, which was two years and two months old, was found by the mother in an outhouse with a severe cut on her head, from which her brains were protruding. The axe was covered with blood and hair, and was by her side. She was dead when the mothor ran out.

Nobody Beems to have witnessed the murder, but from appearances the poor child must have been deliberately held down on the block -with one hand and the blow delivered with the other.

It does not appear that the Loan Company behaved with any harshness towards Dean, who was befriended in several ways, and given every opportunity of protecting his property, but did not take the trouble to do so. He has four other children.
