THE GREAT SURIKES.
London, Sept. 12. The Kaikoura'.s mutton has been unloaded without damage. The Tainui, whose departure was delayed by the strike, has started. She coals at Plymouth. The Dock Committee still refuse to give an advance before January. The city men are cabling to the Australian Unions to the effect that the support given by Australia to the strikers is imperilling the position of London. The leaders of the strike admit that it must have collapsed without the supplies of money received from Australia. A citizen of London offers L2OO, on condition that LBOOO more is subscribed, to recoup the Dock Companies' cost of conceding an advance in November instead of January. Burns iias declined to stand for the Dundee seat, rendered vacant by the death of Mr Firth.
Burns states the end of the strike is near at hand. September 13. To the surprise of everyone, Cardinal Manning announces that the strike has been amicably arranged, subject to the settlement of a few points affecting outside affairs. Sydney, Sept. 13. The Maritime Council state they have received no communication from London asking them not to discharge any vessels manned by blacklegs.
