ACCIDENT ON THE BAR
♦ •— A narrow escape from drov.ii 'i was experienced yesterday at midday by Mr Hcinsen, fisherman, and nis two sons. Mr Hansen was in a small boat abreast of the big crane on the breakwater, and he had apparently kept his boat not close enough to the pier, witli the result that the waves on the sandspit caused the small craft to overturn. One of the boys was washed in shore to shallow water on the spit, but Mr Hansen and the other boy were drifted with the boat into deep water, ;md they were struggling in this position when discovered by Messrs Christensen and Fox, who work on the breakwater. The lifebuoy was procured, and the wind being in the right direction assisted the buoy to be thrown towards those in the water. Mr Hansen managed to secure the buoy, and grasping his ssn, the pair were hauled in to the pier and rescued by Messrs Fox and Christensen. It was a very narrow escape for Mr Hansen and the boy, and they have to be thankful thai circumstances allowed the lifebelt to reach them and that their rescuers acted so promptly as they did.
