Lord Delamere and Lady Evelyn Mor- ! ton were plso passengers. They speak enthusiastically of the centre of the North Island as an attraction for tourists. Yesterday afternoon at 1.30 the final test of water power available for the purposes of the Pulcher Company in lighting the city by electricity was made. Karori as well as Wainuiomata power was utilised, and it was after an hour's trial found that the available power was even in daytime, when other machinery is being worked by the water power, sufficient for the whole electric light installation. This was admitted by Mr Barrow, representative of the Company, and the full lighting of the city under the contract will accordingly be commenced this evening. DUNEDTN, To-day. At a meeting of the Federated Seamen's Union over 100 were present last night. In the Both well Castle case it was resolved that the men come out at all hazards and the ship be not allowed to leave Lyttelton unless the Coolies are knocked off. The Union Company has offered to compromise and is willing to replace the Coolies by whites on the vessel's return from Sydney. Bishop Moran returns in September. At a meeting of the Harbor Board yesterday it was stated the Melbourne Harbor offer to < barter the big dredge for a year, paying L6OOO for the use of it, the Board to send over the dredge, and the Trust to pay the cost of returning it. It was thought a pity to send the dredge out of the colony, when she could be used in many harbors. She was offered to Government with a view to being lent out. As there seems no disposition to accept this, it was decided to inform the Melbourne Trust their offer would be accepted if half the cost of taking her over is paid. I Mr Carew, R.M.,fto-day gave judgment in Police v. Willis. He said he did not find that the constable looked on at the light in the recreation reserve, but was of opinion that he did not follow up promptly and use his own endeavors to arrest one or more of the disturbers. The constable was not actuated by cowardice, but did not do his duty. It was not, however, so serious a case as to merit the maximum penalty, and a fine of 40s and costs would be sufficient punishment. The Seamen's Union accepted the compromise offered by the Union Steam Company concerning Coolie labor on the Bothwell Castle. The vessel will he allowed to leave LyuteUon, and the Coolies arc to be knocked off on her return here in a fortnight's time. This ends the dispute.
