The weekly returns of the Bank of England published to-day show the total reserve in notes and bullion to be £12,100, 000, a decrease of £700,000 during the i week. The proportion of the reserve to liabilities has fallen to 43 per cent. Sydney, to-day. N.Z. wheat is'quoted ab 23 lOd to 3a 2d p«r bushel, but prices are merely nominal; N.Z. oats, Is lOd to 2s 2d ; maize, 3s lOd for sGlbs. There are no potatoes offering. Melbourne, to-day. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.'s (Limited) report states that the accounts from the country districts are fairly satisfactory, consequent upon the favorable weathor for harvesting operations. More grain is coming forward. The yield so far is rather over than under a good average, and it is anticipated that when the heavier crops are cut it will be proved that the surplus available for export will be considerably in excess of that of the past two seasons.
