IMPERIAL POLITICS.
THE IRISH QUESTION. A POSSIBLE COALITION. London, March 5. In the House of Commons to-night the Right Hon. W. H. Holmes, one of the members for Dublin University, brought forward the motion of which he had previously given notice to tho effect that the House would decline to vote supplies for the Government of Ireland without further information as to the intentions of the Government regarding that country. After considerable discussion a division was taken with the result that the motion was negatived. Mr Morgan, a Liberal member, who resigned his seat for Battersea as he had been concerned in Government contracts at the time of tho election, has been reelected for that constituency. Lord Randolph Churchill spoaking at Manchester last night said tho Conservative party would support a Liberal Coalition Government. COLONIAL PRIZE- FIRING. Wanganui, this day. The weather was beautifully fine yesterday with a freßh wind blowing across the range, but the Iwht was rather bad. The proceedings commenced with the West Coast match, confined to carbines, and at the Bhort i ango. Good shooting was made, but at 500 yards misses were by no means the exception. Lieut. Roas (Napier), who won the carbine lielt in Auckland in 1884, however, tiianagofl to keep on tho target, and made,- f a fair score of 85, n^ 1 . a cuiyd first prize in the match, and it als > avehi v the leading position for thech.-unpioiiahip, McKenzie (of Wellington) who finished up with 80 being six points behind. Parslow and Kuchen burst up at 500 yards, and lost the premier positions which they had held since the firing commenced. Shortly after lunch the Canterbury match, for rifles only, was finished, Lieut. Foster (Wanganui) securing first prize with an average score of 63. At tho 600 yards range in .this- match the shooting was wretchedly poor, and several of the competitors did not succeed in hitting the target at all, while there were many who only scored three or four out of 50. The Otago match, which was the last counting for the belts, was commenced at 2.30, and when filing ceased for the day two out of the three ranges had been got through. It will be finished this morning when it will decide the twenties who fire the final stage for the championship. Ib is expected the winners of the belts will be known about half-past three this afternoon, after which the civilians' match will be fired The general opinion is that Ross will win the carbine belt and Acheson the rifle belt.
