Evelyn Ashley stated that Lord Derby had received an offer from the Australian colonies to contribute a yearly sum of £15,000 towards the maintenance of a High Commissioner in the Western Pacific, who would reside in Eastern New Guinea. Hon. Mr Aahleyjaddedthat Her Majesty's Government would take steps to organise a sufficient staff to assist the High Commissioner, and that the appointment of the latter would be made promptly.
