Wellington, this day,
A company is being formed to work the quartz lode lately discovered at Makara by Shakespeare and party. A ton of stone has been sent to tho Thames to be tested. The onslaught upon tho local officials continues. The City Council now has a motion before it for reducing the City Engineer's salary by dispensing with the services of the captain of the Fire Brigade and the assistant engineer, and reducing the Mayor's salary by LIOO. It is said that tho Governor and each member of the Cabinet will separately review the Longhurat case.
