Lectures on cookery will be delivered free to all girls attending the Dnnedin Schools on Saturday next.
Judge Williams yesterday suspended the discharge of a bankrupt who was a deferred payment land holder till the result of his crop was ascertained. He said the Legislature did not intend that a bankrupt should reap the benefit of his crop and become a rich man at the expense of his creditors.
Joseph Farral Jones, lately landlord of the Pacific Hotel, on the Ocean Beach, is supposed to have committed suicide yesterday by throwing himself into the surf. Some of his clothes were found on the beach and a body was seen being tossed by the waves some distance off. The deceased was in monetary difficulties for some time and had shown suicidal tendancies formerly.
Adolph Moritzson, late clerk to the Standard Insurance Company, was committed for trial yesterday on several charges of embezzlement.
