J BATTERY.
A. meeting of th'.j Committee appointed by the corps to arrange for a day's outing on St. Andrews' Day, the 30th instant, was held at ilie Masonic Hotel, on Saturday evening. On the motion of Captain Winter, Sergt. Huddjeston took the Chair. A long discussion took place as to the best site to select as the scene of operations. The Roseland Gardens had been selected at the general meeting of the dorps oh Thurs-, day last, but Captain Winter and some other members of the Committee were of opinion that it. would be far better to hold the gathering at some more convenient place, asit would be very unpleasant for the corps to march such a. distance on ! 'a' hot day, owing to' the dusty state j of the roads. It having been stated that Mr. Rees would place the Hapera grounds at the disposal of the Committee, it was agreed that Captain Winter should interview that gentletnan ; and, in the event of a favorable reply, that the sports, &c, should be held at the Hapera. It was arranged that a parade be called at the Drill Shed for half-post 9 a. m. on the 30th, and that the sports commence at 11 o'clock. The price of admission to the Gruii.ids was fixed at Is. for adults, and 6d. for children and cadets ; the entrance fee to all the events to be Is each, except Tilting in i the Ring and two Open Handicaps/] I which were fixed at 2s. 6d. each. . ■?■ •.:;; The folio wingprogramrae was adopted :, I — Open Handicap, 100 yarda^ Cadet' Race, 100 yards ; Running High Jump.;; Non-commissioned Officers llaoe, -150 yards ; Attack and Bayonet Charge ; Bayonet ••• Eiercises •■; Egg • and •; Ladle Race; Open Handicap,. 200 "yards it Single Stick Matches ; Steeplechase, £ mile ; Gunners' Race, 150 yards ; Tilt-; ing in the Ring ; Three-legged Race ; Boxing, Fencing, Horizontal Bar, and Club Exercises. A vote of thanks to the Chairman brought the meeting to a close. Since the above was written we learn that Mr. W. L. Rees has kindly placed the Hapera Grounds at the disposal of the Battery. The meeting will therefore take place there, and a capital day's sport may be anticipated.
