NAPIER. This Day. The price of the " Hawke's Bay Herald " has been reduced to one penny. WELLINGTON. This Day. The charge of ill-treating a prisoner by two constables was resumed yesterday at the R.M. Court. The medical evidence showed when the prisoner was taken to the hospital, the lai'ge bone of his leg was broken, which could have been easily detected if examined immediately after the man was locked up. Jane Campbell stated that the constables dragged the prisoner along the street. She heard him crying his leg was broken, but the police, did not heed him. The station house-keeper stated the prisoner made no complaint. The case was adjourned. AUCKLAND. This Day! The case against Joe, a New Hebrides Islandei-, was partly gone into yesterday at the R.M. Court. The charge was the murder of Henry Louis Rees. The City Council have resolved to have evening sittings, as the members will not attend during the business hours. NEW PLYMOUTH. This Day. The Natives regard the sentence of imprisonment passed upon 59 prisoners as harsh, and are discontented with Te Whiti and Toliu for permitting their followers to be so treated. To counteract the spirit of dissatisfaction, Tohu has given out that he has performed miracles, such as restoring the sight of a blind man, and other marvels. 1 CHRISTCHUftee. ■ This Day. ! This Da}'. At Palmerston yesterday, two Chinese were fined £25 each, or three months' imprisonment for netting trout out of the Shag River. It is stated some miles of the river has been completely stripped that way by the Chinese.
