The fifth anniversary of the Hibernian Australian Catholic Benelit Society, Gisborae brauch, was celebrated by a ball, at which there was a numerous attendance. The music was exceptionally good, and the catering by Measr's. Jennings and Horgan was excellent, the spread being very tasteful and the viands excellent. The bagpipe was introduced as an accompaniment to the national reels and jigs which constituted a part of the programme. Dancing was kept up vigorously until an early hour this morning. The Rev. Mr. Dellow has undertaken to deliver alternate fortnighly Sunday services with the Rev. Mr. M'A«v at Ormond. Gisborne this time has had a good share of luck in the tickets taken in Abbott'* sweeps for the Melbourne Cup. One hundred and fifty tickets were sold here, five ot which have drawn horses. There are Kinsman, No. 2268' dr;*wu by Mr. D. b'raser; South Hamilton, No. 4405, Mr. G. C. Huddlestou ; Bos worth, 3309, and Eiverton 3319, drawn by a company of 12 Gisbornites ; and Lisgar, 4467, drawn by Mrs. Bach, senr. There w«ad no business at the Resident Magistrate's Court this day. Mr. C. D. Berry announces that he is prepared to make tirst-class sheep dips, either of kauri or totara, which are guaranteed water-tight, and samples of which ca» be seen at his workship. Mr. Berry has made sheep dips a speciality, and we have the testimony of a number of sheep farmers that there is nothing superior in the North Island to those Mr. Berry has lately turned out, the workmanship being very superior, the design good and the cost extremely moderate. The Tararua will reach our port tomorrow morning at daylight, coming from the South. The man Johnston, charged with violating his child, will not be brought up for some days, in order to allow the evidence against him to be completed. The following is a summary of proof the Makaraka and Gisborne Native Land Court session, namely, 12 memorials ordered, 30,593 acres; subdivisions ordered, 266,835 acres ; and 8 testamentary orders.
