The Fire' Brigades^ Bs\, j Hospitals and Charitable \ Aidj JBill were reported without amendment,; and were read -a second time; The University Bill for establishing universities and colleges in the North Island was corainitte'd. The first clause having been passed, the Hon. Mr. Kollestbri moved that progress be reported on the grounds that the Bill proposed an expenditure which the Colony could not -afford. , A very long discussion ensued*. 1 ' Ultimately the 'motion was carajiedf and consequently the Bill was shelved.'
