There is a useful Bill before Parliament which, as no objections have been made against it, is certain of becoming law. The title of this bill is, " Tlie Width of Streets and Roads Act. " The substance of the enactments are that every street and road laid out or surveyed after the passing of this Act shall be not less than sixty-six feet wide, measured at right angles to the course thereof. The owner of lands which are laid out or surveyed m contravention of this Act, and the surveyor who has laid out or surveyed su^ch land, shall respectively be liable to a penalty of five pounds for each day during which such contravention continues, which penalty may be recovered at any time m a summary manner before two Justices of the Peace by any person who may sue for the same. But the Act is nob to apply within boroughs, nor to any road which a Road Board or other local body or private individual may acqure by purchase or otherwise through private lands.
