WELLINGTON; T . This Day. At the dinner given by the late Ministry to the^r supporters on Saturday evening, Sit George Grey., was too ill to attend, fend*^Mr. MacanaVew 1 presided with TVIr. Sheehan m the vice-chair. Messrs Pyke and Alwright were present, though both voted with the majority on the no confidence motion. The Opposition express a determination to resist every attempt to procceed with the business until the want of confidence motion is disposed of, while. Ministerialists say they will not allow a division for a fortnight. ,-■-■[■ Mr. Ballance made a speech at the dinner on Saturday evening, m the course of whioh he referred to his quarrel with Sir George Grey, and hewould let byegones be byegones, and work amicably with Grey for the success of the liberal party. In the Supreme Court yesterday, seven Maories yfere charged with riot and forcible on land at Matawhero, Gisborne; Mr. Rees defended, and stated that the Maori woman included m the committal was too ill to appear, but would come up for sentence if the others were found guilty. In the instance of Karaitiana, who was also committed, the Crown Prosecutor enteted*a nolle prosequi and it was stated that one Maori, who was committed, hadheen passed over m the arraignment, and it was arranged that he should stand out of the trial, Mr. Rees undertaking that he should appear if called upon. The Crown Prosecutor, m opening the case, contended that possession of prima facie evidence of title and even if Bond and Allen 'had no legal title, the charge would liejf it were shown that the. prisoners assembled, m numbers and used force. He also argued that it was not necessary* to- prove that all were concerned m the assault. The fact was their being present and abetting the assault was sufficient. Bond and Allen gave evidence of what was done by the prisoners. The oase was not concluded when the Court rose. -■
